I have been training for sport, recreation and general fitness for over 20 years now. Every single day I discover something new about my body, its changes, limitations and potential. I have learned to fall in love with the process. The process is the journey. While “success” in fitness requires daily commitment and discipline, it is truly an evolving, lifelong journey.
I learned to approach my faith in the similar way. In my fitness coaching studies, I have come across many philosophies for integrating “mind, body and spirit” in an attempt to live and coach others towards more health and improved fitness. But while I have studied many holistic, Eastern Philosophy and other methods for improving mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health, I always find myself returning to the Catholic Church’s teaching to make sense of it all.
Catholicism can be a way of life. It is a religion, a 2000 year old institution I believe exists so that a guy like me can attempt to wrap my little human brain around the idea of not only God, but a loving, personal relationship with God. The Catholic Church has not always been perfect, but I believe there is a reason or three why it has flourished for two millennium. It is filled with 2,000 years of theology, inspiration, experience and beauty … and that makes it a pretty awesome prism through which I can express my faith, explore my spirituality and continue to discover and develop my relationship with Jesus Christ.
Every once in a while I just like to share the inspiration for my thoughts here with anyone reading my articles … so there you go. God bless, and thank you for visiting.
